Dear Jim,

There were some small showers on the way down, it was cloudy in Swanage, then brightened up quite a lot at the other two places, even to the extent the water looked fairly blue. In a car park in Swanage, some woman in an Audi 100 drove into the adjacent space and hit the car as we were sitting in it, causing some slight damage to the side. She said she was not used to driving the larger car, but has comprehensive insurance. So, not a totally stress-free trip, but it could have been worse.

I haven't been up to Sheffield since the early nineties, when I worked as a PC service engineer for a while. In that job, the furthest north I used to go to was Newcastle-on-Tyne. Back in the seventies, one day I decided to see how far north I could go and return the same day, and got up to Stirling, still somewhat short of the Scottish Perth. And that was when I had a Mini as my company car!

The summer deluge in Sheffield is reminiscent of the summer storm they had in Esperance last January. Let's hope that in this case there are no dead birds to fall out of the sky.

I have downloaded SKYPE, and the installation seemed quite straightforward. Something is not working properly with the microphone, as the test call reports "problem with recording device", and if I try recording with the Sound Recorder application, it says another application is recording audio. A Rothschild-agent-installed bug? lol! There doesn't appear to be any legitimate reason for Smith not to use SKYPE.

Regards,
